Théâtre Musical de Paris, also known as Théâtre du Châtelet, is one of the two identical theaters designed by architect Gabriel Davioud and built between 1860 and 1862 on the site of an old fortress. The hall hosts some of the finest opera representations and concerts in Paris. Lately it has become the home of Orchestre de Paris and the French base of Philharmonia Orchestra of London. The other theater, separated from Théâtre du Châtelet by a plaza with a sphinx fountain celebrating Napoleon's victory in Egypt, is now known as Théâtre de la Ville.
