Théâtre de la Ville located in Place du Châtelet is one of the two identical theaters designed by architect Gabriel Davioud and built between 1860 and 1862 on the site of an old fortress. Its original name was Théatre des Nations but was changed to Théatre Sarah Bernhardt in 1949 in honor of the famous French actress. In 1968 it took its current name and lately has become known for staging some of the most successful contemporary dance productions in Paris. Box office is open 11am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and an hour before curtain time on Sunday.
