Pierre Gagnaire
Pierre Gagnaire's eponymous restaurant in Paris

Posted Tuesday, April 4, 2006

Pierre Gagnaire's name is synonymous with culinary poetry and his eponymous restaurant is a temple of gastronomic adventure. Monsieur Gagnaire is famous for his unexpected combinations of flavors, tastes and ingredients culminating in elaborate dishes, full sensory experiences involving the mind and the heart. The gray dining room with polished wood in eathy tones breathes an understated sophistication and the service is professional but relaxed. Some would say it lacks grandeur in the "Le Cinq" way but the modern setting complements best Gagnaire's experimental cooking style.

Reservations for dinner should be made months in advance and lunch reservations a few days in advance. Restaurant is closed on Saturdays and mid-July to mid-August. Lunch isn't served on Sundays. Fixed-price menus are available - lunch 90 euros, dinner ranging from 200 to 300 euros. If ordering a la carte be warned that the check can build up to astronomic value as prices are indeed high.
