Cafe de Flore
Famous cafe in St-Germain-des-Prés
Posted Tuesday, April 4, 2006
If in the early 20th century you could see Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Picasso, Camus or Chagall sitting at the tables from Cafe de Flore, today it seems that tourists have taken hold of this arts cafe, in an attempt to catch the spirit of the days when Sartre and de Beauvoir debated over the philosophy of existentialism. Even though the Left Banks intellectuals and artists don't sit at its tables as much as they used to, Cafe de Flore retains its fame and is still considered a Parisian institution. The interior designed in an Art Deco style is the original decor from the early days of Cafe de Flore and the owners say they have no intention of changing it.
