Hotel Plaza Athénée
Luxury hotel on Avenue Montaigne
Posted Monday, March 27, 2006
The Art Nouveau hotel, a blend of French classic style and modern technology, is located just steps from Champs Elysees and near the Eiffel Tower on Avenue Montaigne, the fashion street of Paris, where haute couture specialists have gathered to celebrate the Parisian chic. Designer boutiques such as Dior, Chanel, Vuitton and Nina Ricci spread along the street. Illustrious past guests include Mata Hari, Jackie Kennedy or Grace Kelly and even Carrie Bradshaw strolled on Avenue Montaigne as the last episode of "Sex and the City" was shot at the hotel. World-famous chef Alain Ducasse oversees the hotel's restaurants, including his own award-winning restaurant Plaza Athenee. The hotel was renovated in 1999 and the signature deep red was kept, being present in the outside awnings and inside in the sumptuous lobby.
The hotel has 145 rooms and 43 suites decorated in Regency, Louis XV or Art Deco style. Some rooms overlook avenue Montaigne and some face a courtyard that houses the summer restaurant La Cour Jardin. Some rooms have panoramic views of the Eiffel Tower and Montmartre. Amenities include hairdryer, direct dial telephone, satellite TV, DSL Internet access, minibar, video recorder, CD player, air conditioning and safe.
Dining options include the gourmet restaurant Plaza Athénée, Le Relais Plaza brasserie, the courtyard restaurant La Cour Jardin (in summer) and Galerie des Gobelins lounge room. The Bar du Plaza has become one of the trendy and hip places in Paris, mostly known for its long illuminated bar resembling a glowing iceberg and the Flower Power cocktail.
