Hotel Bristol
18th century French refinement and best guest service in Paris
Posted Wednesday, March 29, 2006
Once Madame de Pompadour's residence, the 19th century palace that houses the Bristol hotel is located near Palais d'Elysée, in close proximity to upscale designer and antique shops, art galleries and the Champs Elysees. The exclusive hotel, opened in 1924, combines an atmosphere of understated luxury with top guest service. Bristol is well-known in Paris for its attentive, fast and courteous staff that lacks the attitude found in many other Parisian luxury hotels. The interior is decorated with Baccarat crystal chandeliers, original 18th and 19th century art and Gobelin tapestries. The floors are in pale Carrara marble.
The hotel has 134 rooms and 46 suites furnished in Louis XVI-style with noble fabrics, silk and velvet, original paintings and tapestries on the walls, oriental rugs, plush sofas and armchairs and huge beds. The rooms are quite spacious and so are the marble bathrooms appointed with both shower and bathtub. The new Presidential Suite offers one of the best panoramic views of Paris scenery.
At Bristol an excellent gourmet menu can be served in the Winter restaurant, an elegant oak dining room, or Summer restaurant depending on the season. The courtyard garden is great for an afternoon tea in the warm months. The bar hosts fashion shows most Saturdays.
Another excellent feature of the Bristol is the glass covered rooftop heated pool with an ocean liner theme and a lovely terrace that has a great view of Paris.
