Relais Christine
Quiet boutique hotel in St. Germain des Près
Posted Thursday, March 30, 2006
Situated on the quiet cobblestone rue Christine that gives its name, the hotel has a private countryside residence ambiance given by the cobblestone courtyard and lush flower garden. Built on the framework of a 13th-century Augustinian abbey, Relais Christine retains a atmosphere of seclusion even though the lively St. Germain des Près district continues its frantic pace just outside. The lobby and fireplace honor bar are decorated with original wood pannels and beams, sculptures and oriental rugs. The hotel is located in walking distance to monuments like Musee Cluny, Saint Chapelle, Notre Dame or Louvre.
The 33 rooms and 18 suites are uniquely decorated in a modern or classic style. The original stone ceilings with wooden beams are present in some of the rooms and Louis XIII furniture and Jouy fabrics complete the setting. A few rooms overlook the street but most of them have views of the garden or the cobblestone courtyard. Some of the suites are on 2 levels and suites in the ground level open on patios in the garden. Bathrooms are in plain marble. Amenities include air-conditioning, direct dial phone, data port, mini bar, cable TV and safe. Rooms start at 345 euros.
Breakfast is served in the basement dining room, where the abbey's kitchen used to be, which sports its original vaulted stonework and beams.
