Bateaux Parisiens
Paris sightseeing boat tours and dinner cruises on the Seine

Posted Wednesday, March 8, 2006

Even though the Bateaux-Mouches is the most known boat cruise company in Paris, Bateaux Parisiens is a worthy rival, offering similar services and adding something extra for children and the party lovers.

During the sightseeing cruises, passengers can listen to headphones some recorded comments regarding the most important aspects of Paris and the buildings and bridges they pass by (13 languages). Onboard, there is also a live guide that accompanies the recorded commentary with news on the latest events (4 languages). Especially for the kids, the Bateaux Parisiens has the "Enchanted Cruise", an entertaining and educational presentation of Paris with professional actors stagind a little show. However, the kids tour is only in French. A sightseeing cruise costs 9.50 euros for adults and 4.50 euros for children. The boats sail every 30 minutes in summer from 10 am to 11 pm and every hour from 10 am to 10 pm in winter. Boats can be boarded at the Eiffel Tower, on the left bank or at Quai de Montebello at Notre-Dame Cathedral - you'll have to pay an extra 0.5 euros for this option.

Dinner cruises - There are 3 options: the Etoile Service for 92 euros, the Select Service for 115 euros (you get to sit by the window) and the most expensive, the Premier Service, at 135 euros (a hostess is assigned to your table). The menus are composed of aperitif, starter (5 choices), main course (6 choices), assortment of cheeses, dessert (5 choices), coffee, wine and mineral water. If you feel like dancing there's a singer and a small band onboard ready to provide the music.

Bateaux Parisiens has something for the party lovers who enjoy to stay up late also. After the dinner cruise has finished and the boats have returned to shore, the passangers onboard can still have a good time as a DJ comes to mix and invite people to dance until 1 am.

Lunch aboard the Bateaux Parisiens goes from 50 to 70 euros depending on your options of table placement and wine selection. A nice touch is the theme lunch that includes a live one-hour concert after lunch and can be booked at certain dates throughout the year.

A dinner cruise takes about 2 hours and a half with departure at 8:30 pm and a lunch cruise departs at 12:45 pm and returns at 2.30 pm. For both dinner and lunch onboard the Bateaux Parisiens formal attire is required.
