Roue Libre
Go on a bike ride and discover the mysteries of Paris

Posted Friday, March 10, 2006

Roue Libre is mainly a bike rental service run by the RATP (which also oversees the buses and the metro/RER in Paris) that expanded its services to guided tours also. They offer 2 categories of tours: essential rides, for orientation and to get to know the main monuments and neighbourhoods in Paris and theme rides oriented on historical characters, art, fashion, science and much more.

The essential rides cover the beaten tracks from the Louvre to the Eiffel Tower but also Marais, St Louis Island, Montmartre and St Martin Canal.

The theme rides have interesting subjects and promise to reveal Paris from very unusual perspectives. During the "Paris Famous Ladies" tour you listen to the stories of Sarah Bernhardt, Joan of Arc, Coco Chanel or Marie Antoinette and pedal by the landmarks that made them famous. A very popular bike ride that Roue Libre includes in its offer is the "Da Vinci Code" tour, inspired by the famous bestseller. With "Scientific Paris" you discover the facts about brilliant scientists and their experiments, with "Balade des Marchés" some old Parisian markets and "Paris Luxe & Fashion" introduces you to the Parisian fashion world. If you happen to be on Halloween in Paris then you should definitely go on the Great Pumpkin Ride, a night tour, that reveals the dark secrets of Paris.

The tours cost 25 euros if you rent the bike and 15 euros if you bring your own and can be booked on certain dates. They are usually 3 hours long with day rides from 10 am to 1 pm and night rides from 8 pm to 11 pm. Departure points: Maison Roue Libre Les Halles 17 or Hotel de Ville.
